About Crossroads Bible Church

On May 20, 2001, President Dr. A. Charles Ware, supported by the Crossroads Bible College leadership staff, established Crossroads Bible Church with the mission of “crossing barriers and connecting the disconnected in Christ” (Mt 28:19-20; I Cor 9:19-23; Eph 2:11-3:10). Their vision was to glorify God through a local church family characterized by diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.

Twenty-five years later, this vision has been realized. Today, Crossroads Bible Church is a multiethnic congregation offering worship services in both English and Haitian Creole. The church’s history, marked by challenges and God’s providential grace, demonstrates His blessings through the leadership and service of many individuals who have faithfully used their gifts in various ministries.

Timeline

After six years as Senior Pastor, Dr. Ware resigned, and Associate Pastor Nathaniel Hankerson, Jr. assumed the role of interim pastor. Following a search process, Kimber Kaufman was appointed Senior Pastor in 2007 and served until his resignation in 2009. Subsequently, the search committee selected Nathaniel Hankerson as the new Senior Pastor.

During this period, Crossroads Bible Church experienced both growth and challenges. Concurrently, Dr. Gene Crouch, serving as interim pastor at Missionary Free Christian Church, facilitated the groundwork for a merger between the two ministries. Through collective prayer, consultation, and guidance from Dr. Crouch, Elders David Pate, John Guyinn, and Pastor Hankerson, the ministries merged in July 2013. Missionary Free Christian Church transferred its property to Crossroads Bible Church and came under its leadership. On March 1, 2018, Pastor Hankerson resigned, and by July 2019, the search committee and the congregation had approved Damon L. Scott, Sr., as the fourth senior pastor of Crossroads Bible Church.

Under Pastor Scott’s leadership, the church achieved several milestones despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. His resignation in 2022 marked the start of another interim period under Dr. Gene Crouch. As the church faced significant challenges and declining attendance, Pastor Joses Killy Laguerre expanded the ministry by engaging with the local Haitian community after accepting Dr. Crouch’s invitation. In November 2023, following consultation with Dr. Crouch and approval from church leadership, he began leading Creole worship services and joined the pastoral team. The church’s hope has since been renewed through Dr. Crouch’s faithfulness and Pastor Laguerre’s outreach to the Haitian community.

Dr. Gene Crouch

From an early age, Gene recognized the importance of missions and found his place in them. After graduating from college and seminary, he married Janice, also a BIOLA graduate, and with their three-month-old daughter, they arrived in Brazil. There, he pastored and taught pastors in special classes. Their second daughter was born in Brazil. Following Brazil, they moved to Portugal, where Portuguese is also spoken. After Brazil, Gene pastored and taught at a local Bible college and seminary, where their first son was born. He then returned to Grace Theological Seminary to pursue a Th.M. degree. Subsequently, he traveled to Guyana, where he pastored and trained pastors for several months, and their second son was born. Along with his wife and family, he has served as a pastor of two churches in the U.S. and several internationally. Upon returning to the United States, he taught for about 20 years at Crossroads Bible College (now College of Biblical Studies) in Indianapolis, Indiana. While teaching there, they took two years off to teach at a Christian college in Saipan. He now serves as one of the pastors at Crossroads Bible Church.

Team Leaders

Dean Price

Dean has been married to Vivian for 52 years. He recently retired after 30 years working in maintenance at Eli Lilly, following 9 years with an Indianapolis HVAC company and 4 years in the Navy’s construction battalion (Sea Bees). Dean and Vivian have two grown children and three grandchildren.

His faith journey started when he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at sixteen. But like many of his peers, he fell away from God for a time. Thankfully, God never abandoned him. In his thirties, he resumed his spiritual growth by attending Crossroads Bible College and eventually earned a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies.

He enjoys working with his hands and mind, which is why he oversees maintenance work around the church as Facilities Coordinator and leads the Finance team as Finance Committee Chair. He is also a member of the leadership team here at Crossroads Bible Church, where he has been involved for most of its existence.

John Gyuinn

John became a believer in Jesus Christ during his late teenage years. He was married to Valerie for 27 years until her passing. Together, they had one daughter and two grandsons, Charles and Johnathan. He currently serves at Crossroads Bible Church as a counter, an adult Sunday School teacher, and a 4th- and 5th-grade Sunday School teacher. He has participated in the church leadership team for several years and previously served as a church elder during a pastoral vacancy. His professional career included 33 years at Rolls-Royce as a Tool and Die Skilled Tradesman, from which he retired in 2010.

Al Leinbach

Al trusted Christ as his Savior when he was 10 years old, and the Lord Jesus has been faithful through all the various experiences of his life. Galatians 2:20 has been his life verse. He has been married to Donna (Parker) Leinbach for 60 years, and they have three children and six grandchildren. Donna has been a vital part of the ministry at CBC, along with him, for the 20 years they have attended. At CBC, Al has been a member of the Leadership Team for several years, a Bible co-teacher in the Adult SS class, and a leader in the Wednesday night Prayer and Bible Study. He earned a BA degree in Biblical Education from Columbia University, SC, and an MS degree in Secondary Education from Butler University, Indianapolis, IN. God seemed to be leading him into Bible translation work with Wycliff Bible Translators, but God directed him into Christian Education. He has been involved in secondary education for 60 years at Heritage Christian School in Indianapolis, serving as a teacher, coach, Athletic Director, HS Principal, and now Alumni Relations Coordinator. To God be the glory, great things He has done!!!
